Raptor Rehabilitation
Rhuallan Raptors are building a bespoke Raptor Rehabilitation unit for wild injured birds of prey to recuperate and be released back into the wild.
This all started with our vet giving us a couple of injured owls and phone calls from the public, so if a job is worth doing, go for it with a vengeance!
Our unit will provide a secure and secluded area for the birds to recover and still be wild animals able to go back to the area they were found. If however, they are unable to be released, we will find a suitable home with experienced handlers where they will have a good quality of life. No healthy animal will be put to sleep.
This x-rays shows the damage to both wings on a female Barn Owl that was handed in to us for rehabilitation. She had been struck by a car and had extensive internal injuries as well as two broken wings. She had both wings put in splints and was put on a course of painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs and anti-biotics. She was force fed for the first few days, but soon was eating all (dead) food offered - as long as we weren't watching!
We never use wild injured birds as part of our display. They will never be shown, handled or exhibited to anyone. We feel that a wild bird has had enough trauma just being injured let alone becoming the centre of attention. Anyway, we have plenty of captive bred, tame birds who positively rejoice in the limelight! We are not a centre that is open to the public, but we help rescue these birds for the love and just to give something back.
All this costs money, so all donations are gratefully received. You can donate by cheque, postal order or by clicking on to the PayPal button below. Thank you.
